Pastoral support
An Integral part of our work
The size of the school and the levels of staffing mean it is possible to offer pastoral support at every turn to pupils at Brantridge School. All staff act as role models and are available for guidance with specific issues or simply to support pupils in navigating their way through school life.
Pastoral roles in School
• Family Support and Inclusion Manager
• Key worker
• School Nurse
Family Support and Inclusion
Carole Johns offers practical support to families and pupils in her role as Family Support and Inclusion Manager. She is available to help with; admission and transition to and from Brantridge School, communication with other agencies involved with your child, liaison with school, completion of any relevant assessments to support your child.
The Family Support and Inclusion Manager’s role is semi independent of the school. They are not employed directly as part of the school staff and as such are available to support pupils and families with any issues or difficulties that they may not wish to discuss directly with school. The Family Support and Inclusion Manager can help families and school have the open and honest communication that is most challenging but essential when something is not right or not working for your child.
Key Worker
Each pupil whether resident or day boarder is allocated a key worker. This member of staff is the lynch pin for all communication between home and school and the pupil’s first port of call for support. The key worker makes regular contact with families updating on progress, events and practical organisation issues. The key worker is responsible for monitoring, assessing and reporting on social, behavioural and personal development progress. They set, in consultation with the pupil, targets to be achieved in these areas.
School Nurse
All resident pupils are registered with a GP local to school as they spend 39 weeks of the year in this locality. This allows the school nurse to support pupils and families with routine medical screenings, specific appointments, ongoing medical needs, repeat prescriptions and consultant check ups. The school nurse also monitors and reports on general physical fitness and well being.
A vital part of the School Nurse’s role is the pastoral support she provides for pupils. Daily surgery sessions offer an opportunity to talk, get help with ailments or simply seek some reassurance ad comfort.
